Found one of these on the side of the house today. It's a juvenile Spitted Lanternfly. They are invasive from SE Asia, and are horrendous pests on ieconomically significant plants including soybean, grapes, stone fruits, and apples. This particular individual is a greasy spot on the sidewalk.

Wonderful dogs, but require substantial attention you need to be able to provide. Ok. Now I'm clear. Still have the two cats, Ruby and Tuesday (right to left). They provide partially adequate affection...

Attended/witnessed "The Penguin Parade" last night on Phillip Island. Yes, you read that right. An amazing spectacle. Two nights ago, the estimate was that around 1,180 individual Little Penguins returned from ~2 weeks in the water.
