No more forgetting history...Requirement to teach segregation case in California schools: Gov. Newsom signed AB 1805 on Sept. 20, requiring public schools in the state to teach Mendez v. Westminster. The 1947 court case involving an Orange County family and local school districts helped bring about the end of segregation laws in schools around the country. AB 1805 takes effect Jan. 1, 2025.
