We have a wind symphony here in my county that is part college course, part community program. No auditions are required. The program runs on funds from donations to a community foundation earmarked specifically for the wind symphony. No one in the symphony gets paid a dime except the conductor, but that's for his two jobs at a public high school and a private Christian high school. He receives no money from conducting the wind symphony. Members of the wind symphony are a family.
