My personal guideline for legal issues is to live my life in such a way that I never darken the door of a courtroom. Even for civil matters. Lawsuits for money or for abstract principle strike me as a colossal waste of time and energy, where you lose just by participating in the process.

@DavidSalo Unfortunately, we have some police in my area who make avoiding traffic court unavoidable. There’s one officer in particular who thinks he transforms into an omnipotent being when he dons his uniform, and his name is known throughout the county with a groan. He also likes to take home samples of certain substances they confiscate during arrests.
