So, a friend of mine recently was complaining about overdraft fees at the bank.

It took me several minutes of confusion to realize, they'd *never* hit him before.

It absolutely blows my mind that there are people out there that have no idea what an overdraft fee looks or feels like. I just had never occurred to me; I'd thought it was something that, for whatever reason, I'd thought everyone experienced in their life.

@Error418tws Well, considering overdrawing your account is technically a crime for which the better banks generously have a 24-hour grace period of correction deposit, I can see how some may have lived their lives unaware—especially if they paid no attention to the person who opened the account for them and threw out the terms of service brochure. “Just give me the checks and the debit card.” Probably doesn’t know how to use the check register, either. They don’t teach that anymore in school.

@caaddison88 Excuse you.

I was taught how to use a check register just fine in high school. I also grew up poor, and had menial jobs for a good chunk of my life that wound up with my account in overdrawn states on multiple occasions.

Perhaps you should check yourself before declaring someone uneducated, or a criminal, simply for not having enough money.

@Error418tws Also, I was taught in high school pre-algebra, but that’s because my teacher was painfully aware most of us wouldn’t learn it otherwise. No one ever taught us about credit cards. This was for graduating class of 1988 in a class C school in Southern Michigan
