Why doesn't weather radar show the live sweep any longer?

Instead we get these timed loops that show where the precipitation/cloud cover/lightning was a while ago up to (hopefully) some time in the near future.

The timed loops are pretty but...

When I go to a live concert I don't want to see the beginning of each song over and over again with a new note added and a guess at what the next note might be.
