I guess I'm going to tell my midnight meeting (with team members in India) that I won't be making the meeting tonight.
At least everything is back on.

Well the power just went out long enough for me to walk the 25 feet to my phone.
Guess I get to spend the rest of Halloween turning things back on.

I can honestly say I had nothing to do with the local schools websites being down. I didn't even know till o tried to scrape their covid dashboard and the script just hung there.

I swear, sometimes working in content and records management is a real challenge.

I will admit, I'm scraping the website for my own use (it really needs some graphs) but I'm starting to worry I'm annoying them. And, yes, they have mostly fixed the things that would break a screen reader, but not the naming issues.

I'm starting to feel bad about something. Virginia Beach schools has their dashboard listing COVID-19 exposures at schools. I just sent them a 7th note because the dashboard listed a school that doesn't exist, Red Middle School.
- 1 html table that had a <th> where a <tr> should have been
- dates seperated by dots, not commas
- Rows missing in various cells
- Scholl
- Schools being called different things in different rows, one called 5 different things

Watching the news coverage of FB. Why does it seem like this is getting the same coverage as a nation-state collapsing? Almost like it is more important.

Have to wonder if we don't find out that there are some farms with a dedicated connection to FB infra and still scraping the site generating ad revenue for FB

Hearing from a couple of small businesses that they are getting emails about how successful their (the small business) ads are doing on FB today. In the last hour.

How long till we see someone taking a terminal showing networking commands cutting to the scene at the end of Return of the King when Orthac falls?

I can't help but visualize the FB outage like the scene in Mona Lisa Overdrive when the Aleph gets pluged into cyberspace, but in reverse.

While not entirely unexpected, I'm now getting political emails crying that with FB down, they're not able to fund raise.
Jeez, I didn't know bot farms were that effective at laundering money to political campaigns.

Where I work uses Workplace for an internal social network. I wonder where people are going to to complain that FB and Workplace are both down.
Am I a horrible person because, in the abstract, I may be enjoying this?

I do have to wonder if the FB outage is helping or hurting productivity of those who are used to being on FB during work.
Or are they just sitting at their desks rapidly reloading hoping their feed comes back.

I'm not one for ASMR, but listening to thr Echo Dot whisper its replies is unnerving enough to be interesting.

Enjoying the rain. Happy to get your good air back, @daniel?

Suddenly, I can't remember the 3rd thing.
