I just repurposed a 2012 MacBook Pro to a Fedora 40 machine. I had to install compatible drivers for the OS to see the wifi card, but other than that it works really well. I tried the Apple support route to see if I could get macOS 10.7 Lion back on there (our friend bricked it), but to no avail. Now I have a new Linux box that starts with the trademark Apple sound.

@bbbourq Sweet! I am thinking of setting up a dual boot on my 2012 desktop at some point. Apple has this thing where you can't run anything without buying a new computer. New machine to run the new OS because Apple won't let me run it? Naaa, Imma install Linux instead. For now I am holding up but it's in the cards for the future
