Good morning from Honolulu! Today I will be interviewed for a Linux admin position by the senior Linux admin. Thing is, they found me; I wasn't actively searching for a new position. The initial interview was good, but they are afraid that I might not be a fit nor know enough for what they are looking for but admire that I am passionate about learning. The plus side? I will learn what I need to focus on for my career progression even if they decide not to give me an offer.

@bbbourq I'd take someone with a passion for learning over someone who already knew everything and was "meh" about learning new stuff any day. Did it several times in my career, and it was always the right choice. Good luck!

@PoliticalEd

Thank you! I'm very curious about this. It will be in a relaxed setting (Starbucks) and the recruiter stated that the hiring manager assessed my technical expertise around 5 or 6 out of 10. If anything, perhaps I can gain a good mentor.

@bbbourq Ask the technical manager about an apprenticeship, by all means. Passion is a very important trait to have in the tech world, if you don't like what you are doing, and are interested in it, you will never be able to keep up.
