This 1984 Martha Gellhorn paragraph I titled "politics is everything" seems on point these days:
@band You know who doesn't think that "politics don't apply to me"? Those who vote to strip away our rights.
@band In Germany, the phrase "Das Private ist politisch" (The private is political) was a standard argument of subcultures from the 60s to the 80s. I never understood where we turned corners in the 90s and afterward, pretending that individuals are responsible for solving problems that society imposes on them.
@band This is why I sometimes forget to include a politics hashtag. It's sort of like requiring a #life hashtag.
