@Zevon Old oaks probably have deep roots, I'd expect them to stand but possibly lose limbs. That's generally how I get wood for smoking food ;-)
@b4cks4w ah, yes we often do see the limbs down after a storm - big limbs! best to stay inside :) cool you collect and use them for smoking foods.
