Boeing may end up keeping its two astronauts, Williams and Wilmore, on the ISS for months, because they'd rather risk their lives on their leaking, sputtering Starliner rather than letting them hitch a ride on the SpaceX capsule.
Sure, it would suck to have SpaceX get all the glory and highlight your own failures, but surely the astronauts' well-being and lives come first.
I can see that–but a lot of that is water under the bridge already, and if Williams and Wilmore are endangered or killed because they're sent home in a broken spacecraft, that's going to cost Boeing all of that and more.
