In anecdotal, but significant to me, good news, I learned that switching from unfiltered turkish press coffee to green tea in the morning has lowered my cholesterol 12 points from the "we need to talk" red zone into the "keep your stinkin' pills" green zone.

In total I have lowered my cholesterol 93 points, through diet and exercise, no prescription statins.

@ceorl Did something similar. Put coffee through a paper or cloth filter, exercise more, have a beer now and then and I don't hear about LDL anymore. Ta da!

@b4cks4w

Good for you! Yes as I understand it a paper filter removes about 95% of what you don't want from the coffee, so I do allow myself a single filtered cup every couple of days or so.

I wish more doctors were more supportive of lifestyle changes rather than dispensing pills, but I suppose that is the easy and profitable way.

@ceorl I'm not even anti-statin per se, just would rather not have another pill to take every day forever. Took years to find my laid back M.D. What if there was a laissez-faire index for doctors? Intervene<--------->Diet&Exercise

@b4cks4w

I like that idea of ranking doctors on how good team players they are ;)

I fired that first one who had no faith in my ability to change my lifestyle, and found one who really works with me as a partner.
