Do I understand correctly that the jellyfin user needs to own the entire media drive? That's not how I want to manage things.

@KAutumnrain okay, thanks. I 755'd the media folder tree and jellyfin server says no permission. On their forums I got the idea the drive had to be mounted with jellyfin ownership. I'll RTFM more

all good. I've tested it on both Mac and Linux with the same effects. There does seem to be a limitation with this but I'm not sure why. Suggestion: might a symlink work?

@KAutumnrain update: still the same error. Gut says it's to do with how the drive is mounted, so I'll dig in on that. Lot of reports of this problem and a lot of different solutions. Good to know it definitely can work the way I want.
