' Here's How GM Was Able To Spy On The Driving Habits Of Millions Of Its Customers [Update] '

🤔 where's the antenna?

@Dane
You got me to look up Toyota
Not happy🤬

@Dane
That seemed easy, too easy?🕵️‍♂️
Tapped the SOS button to disconnect. Nice call center person said it would disconnect all connected services
Ok, I didn't subscribe to any
Verified that Bluetooth and wired connections for Android Auto, etc would still work.
They still work fine
The possibility remains that they only ended my ability to see what data they are getting, not their ability to get it. 🤔

@Dane
Still transmitting despite Toyota saying they ended transmission
See email and app screenshot

As it happens I'm at the dealer and the service people said the data was coming from a box they attached to the OBD port and it can't be removed if the vehicle is financed by Toyota.
Finance people said to take it out of I want.
I will
The email must still be false as it seems unlikely the GPS plugged into the OBD can transmit....
Creepy AF

@BrentSullivan 🤔

' the service people said the data was coming from a box they attached to the OBD port and it can't be removed if the vehicle is financed by Toyota '

There is a fishy smell in the air.

I would attach it to another car unrelated to me. 😇

@Dane
Thanks for the link. Consistent story.
When I get the truck back I'll check if it's the same device

Need to get access to an overly cautious driver's car..... Lolz

@Dane
So I get the truck back and look at the OBD and there's nothing connected to it.
"Oh nice--they took it out"
Get home and check the app and it shows the trip home. 😡🤬😤
Put my head back under the dash and there's a big bundle zip tied together with a blinking light. I clipped the zips and sure enough there's an FCC id on a little black box with it's own wiring harness and plug.
Unplugged it
No more tracking

@BrentSullivan @Dane Ah apologies, I just realized that URL is useless. FCC website is creaky. Happy to provide more info.

@b4cks4w @Dane
I managed to get to a search by FCC id page and got results, but the details seemed to be in other Links.
Any other help appreciated

@BrentSullivan @Dane There are 3rd party sites that are essentially wrappers for fcc.gov, and make it much easier to use. Still a learning curve! E.g. fccid.io/XMR2020BG95M1
