Discussing pour-over coffee

Me: Sometimes I don't wait the full time for the grounds to bloom before doing the rest of the pour-over. And I can't really tell the difference.

Him: The coffee can tell the difference.

Me: Does that matter?

Him: You have no empathy for the coffee?

Me: It doesn't have any feelings.

Him: You only have empathy for things with feelings?

Me: Isn't caring about feelings the definition of empathy?

Pour over coffee in the morning is almost solely so I can assess my cognitive function.
Remember to grind the beans? 1 point
Remember to warm the cup? 2 points.
Pour the grounds back into the grinder? minus 50 points.
etc.

Yeah, one thing with waiting for the bloom is it usually results in my forgetting to do the rest of the pour-over because I haven't had coffee yet so I wander off and forgot I was making coffee in the first place.
