Seems I'm diving in to all the rabbit holes today.

Anyone know what's what with CO2 Heat pumps* as an alternative to gas instant water heating?

* aka 'air-source heat pumps'

@raspberrypanda
Do not know about the instant water heater part of that, but there are heat pump water heaters that extract the ambient heat to raise a water tank up to temp. Actually cools the room it is in as well, so depending on installation location a part of a room/ house would also be cooled.

@pendrag

Yep. That's the puppy I'm looking at. It'd be outside here to save space so not worried about the cooling effects... just whether it would be a genuinely good, does what it says on the box, alternative to my existing gas water heating system. 👍

@raspberrypanda
Neighbor has one in their garage, semi open location. Actually does keep the area cooler, and he stated it has lowered his power consumption more.
He went solar a few years back as well, though does not have a dump connected, and is subject to local power regulations.

@pendrag

Hmm. Good to know that it does what it says it will do. My garage is fully enclosed, so it wouldn't be a location to set down the pump.
It would probably be even better if I could connect it to my solar. 🤔

Now to have a heart attack and find out the upfront cost of installation and work out what the repayment timescale might be.
