Last night's CoSo call reminded me that there are some folks out there who maybe aren't aware of the array of great art and design that is both and Free. A starter pack:

GIMP: artistic image editor: gimp.org/

Inkscape: illustration / graphics w/ vectors: inkscape.org/

(GIMP + Inkscape are about equal to PhotoShop for ability, but takes more work. But free.)

blender: 3d modeling & rendering: blender.org/

@FernLovebond use gimp and inkscape, and declare this the year I get started with blender.

Did a little video edit with blender -- easy and not even something I thought it would do.

Yay! More artistic types 🙂

While incarcerated, I begged the "Digital Design" class to add GIMP to its PCs (they had PhotoShop before it went hard cloud, & never paid for another license once it did, so we ended up with just old versions of MS Office). I wrote a dozen or so requests to various staff to PLEASE give us free, opensource software like GIMP--it costs them nothing but time to install, is typically useful on older PCs, and lets us meet edu standards. Took 5 years. 🧵1/2

They finally added GIMP, which I'd used for years before my captivity, and Inkscape, which I'd never tried, and blender, which I hadn't even heard of. They also got us instruction books for each. I did the basics for blender's first few chapters, but I then focused on GIMP and Inkscape. REALLY cool together.

Although I wasn't into blender as much, I saw people make some pretty good stuff in just a couple months learning. Glad you found it easy enough 🙂
