Morning thought:

The fondness of dictators for slogans is founded in the ability of slogans to short-circuit critical thinking: to allow a combination of words to excite emotion, without giving the hearer time to take the words apart and think about what they really mean.

The fondness of modern wannabe dictators for memes has the same origin, only now we have images added to the slogans for extra oomph. But the memer likewise doesn't want you to slow down and think—just to feel and to assent.
