"The dispute boils down to 1 issue: paid sick leave.
The tentative agreement did secure pay increases for rail workers, raising wages by about 24% over 5 years. The unions, however, note that the increase does not even keep up with the pace of inflation. But wages don't appear to be the primary sticking point."
IMO no one should have to go to work and spread their illness to others when they are sick because they cannot afford any days with no pay!
@artisanrox Totally agree! Big Corps reaping huge profits at the expense of "essential" employees who shouldered us through the worst of the pandemic should not be penalized for being sick! That's what it boils down to! When I negotiated teachers' & school personnel contracts, we tried to get to the term "paid time off" so there needed to be no need to delineate "personal day", "sick leave", "fmla", or even "death of relative"!
It's good business for employees to have paid leave.
