I see people discussing whether or not felons can be president. Tough call, but I can tell you as a naturalized citizen that's was adopted in 1970 at the age of 3, educated in the public school system, with nearly 22 years of distinguished military service, and no criminal record, I could never be president.
It was supremely irritating to be told all the time going up, "you can be anything you want to be," know full well that the rules clearly didn't extend that option to everyone.
Only natural born citizens can be president. But you can hold any other office.
The qualifications for presidency do not address criminal records.
According to England, all the founding fathers were traitors.
@artildawn If we were to avoid electing presidents born on foreign soil and avoid electing presidents under 35 years of age . . . I don't think we need a mathematical proof worthy of Hilbert to the effect that the founders wouldn't have wanted someone with a significant criminal record serving as president. If the people who established this country had known we'd be afraid to think for ourselves, I imagine the revolution would've been nothing but a pipe dream. A nation of fools? Nonstarter.
@artildawn
You hit the nail on the proverbial head. America has had a l-o-n-g history of "Only for me, not for you." And if you have money, well shit you can get it all.
IMO, no one who is currently indicted, awaiting trial, been arrested, etc. etc. should be allowed to partake in running for elected office. Let 'em be ruled innocent and then they can resume such activities.
