My other comment was based off my knowledge but I see in reality they used sign language rather the write boards as some do

Several safety divers are just outside the frame of the shots. A model will hyper saturate with air and then go 2 minutes of so. Signal for the divers and then hyper saturate again for another shot. while she breathes, they are writing out the new instructions or discussing the next possible shots
