According to the University of North Carolina Hussman School of Journalism, “200 counties do not have a local newspaper. Half of all counties - 1540 only have one newspaper, usually a weekly.” The situation is dire and getting worse quickly.
So, is this referring to paper newspapers? Or, it counts digital ones as well? (Yes, the digital divide exists too. )
@artemis this particular quote is about print news, but yes, the digital divide exists. far right wingnut "news" sites tend not to have paywalls, so they are able to disseminate lies very quickly & easily
