Anyone have any British movies (old or new) to recommend? β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

@amarand The Railway CHildren, Kes, Brief Encounter, Wicker Man, Gregory's Girl, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Dunkirk spring to mind.

@Mandypar

Ooh! But I learned the term "borstal" from Fawlty Towers so...

"None of them packs quite the wallop of Alan Clarke’s hugely influential portrayal of life inside of a British borstal."

@Mandypar

Ooh, Four Weddings and a Funeral! Will probably save that for non-solitary viewing. But:

"And what’s more, it’s the only film in this list to open with the word β€˜fuck!’"

@amarand I saw Notting Hill in a cinema in Austin - so freaky to be the only person laughing at jokes (yet they all laughed at a British person swearing).

Oh my goddess, I just typed "Knitting Hill" accidentally and now I think we have a new movie.

@XSGeek @amarand @Mandypar Honestly, AI is all machine learning so ageism and sexism are probably just part of the β€œknowledge” at this point. Knitting (and crochet and and and) are all treated as hobbies, crafts and women’s work while men who knit rise to almost instant popularity on social media just because of the fact that they are men who happen to knit. Just like AI doesn’t generate images of BIPOC people unless specifically told to and when then the results are odd. The isms at work.
