Bernice Johndon Reagon
"It is impossible to separate liberation struggles from song. And in the 1960s — at marches, and in jailhouses — the voice leading those songs was often Bernice Johnson Reagon. Her work as a scholar and activist continued throughout her life, in universities and concert halls, at protests and in houses of worship."

@ChrisPierson I first heard her incredible voice on an old Pete Seeger record. I was lucky enough to hear her again a dozen times over the ensuing years both solo and with the amazing Sweet Honey in the Rock. She was a voice that was always welcome and one that I'll miss greatly.

The question is no longer "What do the polls tell us about the mood of the American people?" because polls are no longer constructed to provide any useful answer to that question.

The question is "Who is designing and constructing these polls? Who is pipelining them to people who they think will be swayed by them? What is their purpose and their agenda?"

And we don't exactly have anybody looking into that.

@evamarie what's in the water these folks are drinking? Insane.

@feloneouscat @WordsmithFL
Nobody plays circular firing squad better than the Democratic Party. Stupid.

@ps9714 likewise - we all need to support efforts like theirs.

@ps9714 I start every day reading her and Heather Cox Richardson. There's news out there to be had, just takes a tiny bit of work.

you gotta be a little on the aged side to get that Vivian reference.

The other woman that I learn from every day. Along with Vivian, she's my favorite Vance.

@Charles_Hawtrey I can't imagine that "his people" wouldn't contact her about appearing this week in Milwaukee. Heartless ghouls that they are. He doesn't possess enough heart to reach out to her out of compassion.

Do horses get jet lag?

This is a very interesting article in today's Washington Post. Things I never thought about in terms of the Olympics.

We have to save ourselves....none of the "guardrails" or "institutions" are up to the job.

The vote is all we have

I take no joy in what happened on Saturday night. I never can support crazy people with guns, no matter who they have in their sights. When America decided it was okay to slaughter six year olds with AK47s, this type of behavior is the next logical step. I wonder if those legislators that wear a weapon pins on their lapels will reconsider the message that they're sending. Sadly, probably not.

@TheOtherLisa3 one that doesn't give a shit about his Secret Service detail. He's got a history of that though.

@redenigma what's really odd is that there was another article on the justsecurity's website entitiled "Meta's Oversight Board in an Historic Election Year: Nine Key Lessons for Industry." It was written by someone on Meta's oversight board. So Meta blocks one of their own experts and relies on The Dispatch to run their algorithms. As John Prine sang, "it's a big ole goofy world."
