Over time I'm feeling worse, not better. I feel like we were all sickeningly betrayed (and I feel it also on a very personal level) by groups that always pretended to know better: starting with 'establishment' Rs who traded principles for imaginary power, then purist leftists who are always too good for any feasible candidate, youth who have embraced a nihilistic vision of the future, and most of all the media.

For years the media preached that a free and independent press, devoted to principles of openness and transparency, was the necessary sunlight to shine on the corrupt world of politics and prevent the rise of demagogues and dictators to power.
And now, we see that they failed at their first real test, their supposed principles scattering to the winds as they scramble to lick a dictator's boots.
And for what? In all these cases, people sold themselves for worthless baubles, or air.
