My 4th block (last class of the day) is 9th graders. They are still on middle school norms for a few months.

Today the internet went out, in the whole city, so I told my 4th block they could play uno, cuz nothing else was possible.

Admin showed up in an unannounced eval. What did they think was going to be happening in a technology class with no internet on a district that won’t allow access to our software other than guest?

And last class of the day on a friday? With or without internet? Tell me how that’s anything other than a gotcha attempt

Im sure I’ll hear crap about it, but byte me. When I was unable to teach I had kids playing a game and interacting with one another instead of being on phones. I’m counting it as a win

@LaurelGreen Hell, Uno is a strategy game that requires adaption to shifting play conditions, plus it has an incredibly appealing and learnable UX; how is that bad for a tech class?

(Seriously though: I'm an infosecurity researcher and one of my areas of inquiry is securiry-training gamification, specifically non-digital modalities. I have big ol' thoughts on how we can better train tech folk by unplugging the machines more often. Would love to hear a front-line educator's thoughts re same.)
