Your resume should not go back more than 20 years for two reasons:

1. Nobody cares what you did 20 years ago unless it relates to what you’re doing now.

2. It ages YOU, which makes you a potential target for age discrimination. Yes, ageism exists, and it’s illegal. Dates on a resume are subtle “legal red flags” employers use to screen candidates.
