@spacesloth I think this is from a Bosch painting... It was in my pics and I thought of your barred owl from earlier :)
I think I can say pretty certainly that it's not "The Garden of Earthly Delights", nor "The Conjuror". I'm thinking it MIGHT be "The Temptation of St. Anthony", but I'm not confident of that and I'm too lazy to hunt up ginormous art books.
Oh, yeah. Duh.
@mcfate @spacesloth didn't realise he used so many owls in his paintings, but I do now :)
@mcfate @spacesloth Bosch is the best representation of middle ages moudly rye ingestion I always think... (ergotine)
One of the best afternoons of my life was the one I stood for two hours straight a foot away from "The Garden of Earthly Delights" at the Prado.
I could have stood there longer, but there was other stuff I wanted to see, they got a lot of both Bosch and Dürer.
@mcfate @spacesloth Durers Hare ❤️
@mcfate @Zailrand @spacesloth Oh, I'd really like to do that!
@mary_mayhem @mcfate @spacesloth I spent a lot of time as a kid standing in front of paintings with eccentric artist stepdad - taught me a lot about perspective in various senses...
@Zailrand @mary_mayhem @spacesloth
I don't think I could do that with most paintings. But that one is a lot of painting, all by itself.
@mcfate @mary_mayhem @spacesloth lol, it encompassed the Pre-Raphaelites to the surrealists and everything in between... He used to loudly contradict tour guides too. I really miss him :(
@Zailrand @spacesloth
That is certainly a detail of a Bosch painting and if I looked at it long enough, I might be able to guess which one, it's definitely one I know.
