Question for the audiophiles.

I currently have a very inexpensive entry level turntable and I'm considering upgrading to a direct drive unit.

Is brand new better than bargain hunting for a refurbished older/vintage unit?

I ask because there is a shop nearby with a Sony PS-X5 Direct Drive Turntable *
Steel Plinth * Ortofon OM10 Cartridge for $350. Or a brand new Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB-BK Direct-Drive for $279-$329?

Are direct drives "in" now? I thought belt drives were the rediscovered big thing. Good. I have a Dual direct drive turntable that I haven't set up yet.

@YouInMyEye I'm not sure which is better but my thought process is that direct drive would be more accurate with speed. I'm not opposed to a belt drive I just want to upgrade.

If the motor has a problem then it doesn't matter. I'd stay away from used, personally; turntable with persisting problems can be a nightmare and a money pit. Good luck with your search.
