is it just me or does orange julius not taste like it used to?
when i was a kid, it was the biggest of treats when we were at the mall to get back to school shoes and supplies, if my mom would buy us 1 pineapple julius to share btw the 4 of us kids. it was the best!
i don't go to the mall often as an adult but i did last yr for some biz reason. and i saw the orange julius sign so bought myself a pineapple julius. it was very disappointing. π
@singlemaltgirl The original Orange Julius is no more. Dairy Queen licensed the name but today's receipe is not exactly the same.
Having grown up in SoCal, home of Orange Julius, I tell the local DQ about the "real" Orange Julius and how there were stores all over SoCal. They know it's not the same, but it's what they're sent. No freshly squeezed oranges.
@singlemaltgirl It's an approximation.
I tell them about how Orange Julius had a long stand at the Los Angeles County Fair where you could watch them slice an orange in half and grind it to make the drink. That doesn't happen any more.
Sometimes DQ tells me they don't have all the ingredients. Would I like one without <fill in the blank>?
Um, no.
@singlemaltgirl The DQ version is reasonably close, but it's not the same. I have one every rare once in a while to recall my childhood, but I'm under no illusions that it's the real thing.
@WordsmithFL i haven't been to DQ in a long time. my son liked blizzards when he was a kid so he would get a treat sometimes on tournament weekends. but he's all grown and i don't think i've gone thru a DQ drive thru in over a decade. i should check to see if they have orange julius and maybe try. π€
@singlemaltgirl Not all DQs have Orange Julius. It doesn't hurt to try, though.
@WordsmithFL i do remember as a kid they had lots of fresh oranges. but you're right. they don't have that anymore, do they?
