#MSNBC talking about some voices in the Democratic party calling for a "mini-primary" before the convention, or at the convention.
There are no mechanisms for this.
The DNC would have to hold a vote to change the convention rules. Why would they do that? It would only introduce more chaos.
My guess is that #Biden will address the convention, release his delegates, and ask them to vote for #Harris.
I don't think the DNC leadership will tolerate any other nominees.
From #CNN: More minutiae on how the convention rules will play out and how other candidates would have to be nominated.
(People lecturing me about past conventions don't seem to realize that the rules change from convention to convention ...)
Among the highlights:
* Candidate must collect signatures from at least 300 delegates.
* Candidate must establish "substantial support for their nomination as the Democratic candidate."
From #Politico: Some Democratic donors are reaching out to Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), asking him to re-register as a Democrat and run for the party's presidential nomination at the convention.
From @actBlue on Zombie Twitter:
"NEW: Small-dollar donors raise over $27.5 million on ActBlue in the first 5 hours of Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. Grassroots supporters are energized and excited to support her as the Democratic nominee"
Over on Zombie Twitter, the United Farm Workers have endorsed Kamala #Harris.
"The United Farm Workers is proud to endorse VP Kamala Harris for President. Dime con quien andas, y te digo quien eres.
"Kamala Harris stood with farm workers as CA’s Attorney General, as US Senator, and as Vice President. There is work to be done, and we’re ready. Sí, se puede!"
@WordsmithFL do delegates have to go to Kamala if Biden wishes or are they free agents? Sorry for my lack of knowledge
@Razdawg22 The rules are on the DNC website but fairly byzantine. As I understand it, the #Biden delegates must vote for Biden in the first round, unless he releases them. I'm sure he will; I don't think he can force them to vote for #Harris or anyone else.
@WordsmithFL I'm not predicting anyone at this point, but why do we give two shits what #MSNBC is saying still?
@TrueBloodNet If you're going to insult me for watching #MSNBC, then I'm moving on.
@WordsmithFL Your choice. I didn't actually insult you though. I don't do personal attacks.
@WordsmithFL They fear his immunity. :)
@WordsmithFL ban them
@WordsmithFL what a little bitch
@Razdawg22 Someone said recently, "The most dangerous place to be is between #Trump and a camera." We'll see.
@WordsmithFL I don't trust Psaki. She was just on TV in the past couple days saying biden was staying in the race and nothing was wrong with him.
@JanetZumba_FalPals Media reports today have said that not even Biden's inner circle knew this was coming. Psaki reported what she was hearing from Biden's people. Your problem is with the Biden people, not with Psaki.
@WordsmithFL the other day i got to meet with her office.. that was very cool..
@WordsmithFL is that true?
@CinnamonGirlE Is what true? 🤔
@WordsmithFL
That Trump won't debate Harris unless on Fox News?
@CinnamonGirlE #Trump posted it on Truth Social tonight. I've seen the screen-captured post in several places.
@WordsmithFL
Why can't people see what a chicken, bully, predator, grifter, rapist, felon he is??
@WordsmithFL @CinnamonGirlE
Just call him chicken on national TV for not debating as agreed...
He agreed too a Presidential Debate.
Call him out on his crap and force him to debate as agreed...
Coward... Does he want to claim BoneSpurs again???
@WordsmithFL
You want to believe it's satire. And then it isn't.
@CinnamonGirlE #Trump World is all about performance art.
@WordsmithFL Oh dear, don't joke. I fear the Democrats might be wandering around the internet looking for ways to screw this race up further. They might see.
Great news!
@WordsmithFL Cyburn has endorsed Kamala Harris.
@WordsmithFL
I don't think it's going to be that difficult nominating Harris. The primaries were winner-takes-all in most states, so there are very few delegates who weren't all-in for Biden. That meant being all-in for the status quo, and that's now Harris. Hard to imagine more than 50% will break ranks with that. Inertia is powerful.
VP choice will be interesting, though.
@WordsmithFL they'd do it the same way that they did a roll call at Convention when Sen Sanders was running for Potus. Remember?
@WordsmithFL Would Biden delegates have the option of not becoming Harris delegates? Worried the Supreme Court would come up with something at #tfg’s request to keep her from getting the nomination.
@ACG2 I don't see how. The convention is August 19. To file a lawsuit, a party must have "standing," i.e. been injured by the defendant. It's an internal Democratic Party matter. #SCOTUS is adjourned until October, so no way to hold a hearing.
Could Biden delegates not support Harris? Depends on what rules they come up with but, if he releases them, then yeah, they can vote for whomever they want. But they're Biden people, so they'll do what he wants.
@WordsmithFL 🙏🏼💙Thanks!!! Feeling a bit more relieved now.
