#Politics #SocialSecurity #Medicare
"Officials project that Social Security will be insolvent by 2035, and Medicare by 2036, which would force benefit cuts for both programs. That’s better, though, than many experts had expected — last year, federal actuaries said the programs could go belly-up sooner. Instead, the low unemployment rate means more workers are contributing to the programs, shoring up their finances even while record numbers of retirees enroll for benefits."
@peterquirk The problem is easily solved. The Republicans don't want to solve it because they want to kill #SocialSecurity and #Medicare.
@WordsmithFL @peterquirk This has driven me nuts for years. The SS cap is absurd.
@WordsmithFL Raising the FICA cap on people who earn more than $168,400 would help fix the problem. Bear in mind that some CEOs take only $1 in salary to ensure taht they contribute nothing to Social Security.
