When I filed this year's income tax papers to the , I requested a refund of $257.

I just checked the bank account.

The IRS just deposited ... $1,330. 😱

This happened last year. In 2023, I paid them $1,073. They sent a refund of $3,624. 😱 😱

I don't know what mistake I'm making, but it must be a good one.

@WordsmithFL
You should start charging other people to do theirs, too. A Win-Win!

@MMH I figured out where it came from. It's a refund of last year's payment plus what we were owed this year. $1,073 + $257 = $1,330.

Why they refunded last year is unknown to me, but I'm not questioning it.

@WordsmithFL @MMH I would check with the IRS. Many years ago my husband and I were surprised with a larger than expected refund and ended up having to pay it back.

@Resister_Grandma I think I know why this happened. They should send a letter soon explaining why. That's what happened last year. I did call them last year for an explanation.
