From the St. Augustine Record: man sets himself afire outside trial courthouse.

In a post on a Substack newsletter called "The Ponzi Papers," victim Max Azzarello said he had burned himself alive to draw attention to the U.S. political and economic system ...

Azzarello's manifesto took aim at Trump, President Joe Biden, cryptocurrency and the federal government.

@CoyoteConscious @WordsmithFL It's an incredibly broad conspiracy theory that ties George Orwell, The Beatles, The SImpsons, Bill Clinton George Bush, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Peter Thiel, Jeffrey Epstein and others in a US-centric but global fascist coup. Not mentioned was that the guy tried to commit suicide by fossil fuel.

@peterquirk @WordsmithFL Oh, I don't think his theories are correct. I just relate to his feelings and sentiments.

@CoyoteConscious @WordsmithFL Ponzi schemes only work because individuals buy into them because of greed. We have agency to simply not buy into them.

@peterquirk @WordsmithFL I doubt, for instance, that an evil cabal deliberately released COVID on the planet. ;)

I think they were trying to make sense, connect dots, make there be some cohesive reason that all these terrible things are allowed to go on, make it seem that the elites have some evil plan (although he seemed to think all that could be stopped, if only people knew - different than how most conspiracy theorists act).

@peterquirk @WordsmithFL I mean, we do have wealthy oligarchs and autocrats that do everything to siphon up more money, power, resources, everything from all of society.

Maybe he went mad from trying to make sense of it.

@CoyoteConscious @WordsmithFL His failure to understand individual agency meant that he had to assume some sort of hivemind conspiracy to "connect the dots". Sometimes they're not connected, but they are related in that certain individuals in a culture have common influences and privileges that lead them to act in similar ways.
