Here's why this won't work ... Other than the obvious (federal jurisdiction), if local police enforce this their jails quickly will fill up. INS won't come to get them, because it's a state law.

When I was in law enforcement in the 1980s, we didn't detain suspected immigrants for this reason. No place to put them, better things to do with the jail space.

@Boyceaz They have to put them somewhere. Reading through various articles, it's clear that several law enforcement officials and agencies opposed the bill for the very reason I wrote -- no place to put them, better things to do with their time.

Your suggestion is one possibility. They could go the Joe Arpaio vote and set up tent cities with barbaric living conditions, something certainly would support.

This has the potential to get ugly very quickly by next summer.
