Oh shoot--
Also, happy International Men's Day! ๐จ
Today's a day for reflecting on whether our cultural healing excludes key issues facing the fellas:
More likely to be incarcerated & treated as troublemakers.
Disproportionately enduring some of the most dangerous jobs.
Mocked by peers, partners, & family for emotional vulnerability.
More likely to suicide, yet less served by mental health initiatives.
There are *so* many wonderful masculinities in the world.
May you always be safe in yours.
@MLClark What the greeting card companies won't come up with ... ๐
As far as I'm concerned, there's only one masculine trait, and that's a certain unique form of genitalia.
It's certainly possible to view these days as mere Hallmark occasions! In Colombia, IWD in March is treated as a Valentine's Day to many, which annoys the heck out of people trying to talk seriously about gendered problems.
I don't have an inner gender; I am *gendered* wherever the hell I go in this world, by people who make assumptions about me based on sex characteristics.
But gendering really screws up how we treat one another. To heal our humanity, it's important to discuss.
