I've tried to avoid any commentary on what is obviously a sensitive topic right now ...

But the political consultant "spin doctor" in me has been musing that Israel, the U.S., and other allies should be spinning the IDF invasion of Gaza not just as a rescue mission for the hostages, but for all Palestinians under the thumb of Hamas.

"Join us in the streets! Help us bring down your oppressors!"

Especially now that Hamas is firing on its own refugees. (1/2)

I've no idea if it would work, and it should have been tried weeks ago before Israel took their PR hits.

But clearly the majority of Gaza residents have no love for Hamas and have been terrorized by them.

Maybe they would have turned out and created enough chaos that Hamas couldn't have mounted an effective defense.

Just my idle speculation. Not looking for a fight with anyone. 😊 (2/2)

@WordsmithFL: Gazans are in an open-air prison, but it's Hamas who are their jailers. There's not a shortage of video lately and for years now showing Hamas stopping people from evacuating buildings to be hit by the IDF, muzzling them when they try to speak to foreign press, etc. most Gazans are poor and have next to or no weapons. And Hamas has shown repeatedly they'll waste anyone who gives them trouble, including members of the PA and Fatah.

@thedisasterautist Which is why I think there's common ground right now between the Gazans and Israelis. I just don't know how that can be used right now.

@WordsmithFL: It probably can't be. Gaza's so small and crowded that the fog of war is choking.
