KCAL-TV Channel 9 is livestreaming both #Hilary and Ojai earthquake coverage.
Strictly based on a Google search, the San Cayetano Fault runs through Ojai.
(Ojai is not near the San Andreas Fault.)
A 5.1 quake can cause minor to moderate damage to structures near the epicenter, especially older structures. It's not unusual for the epicenter to have a communicatons blackout until services are restored.
I suspect we'll get pictures of merchandise down in stores, broken windows here and there, perhaps a collapsed chimney on an older home. But it will take time.
It will take time, but the local newspaper is the Ojai Valley News. I suspect some of the earliest reports of damage (if any) will show up here.
Retired USGS seismologist (and SoCal legend) Dr. Lucy Jones livestreaming on KCAL-TV. She says there were a number of 2s yesterday in Ojai before today's 5.1. She says the San Cayetano Fault is the most likely suspect, but will require field inspection to confirm.
California has an early warning alert system that sends a message to an app on your phone to let you know you're about to feel shaking. It's location specific, so it won't do you any good in Florida (I've tried), but lots of media reports this afternoon that the alert system worked.
For those of you with #CoSoPro, it's livestreaming Ventura County Fire. I just heard them responding to "some damage at the dorm," whatever that was. So may be getting our first reports of earthquake damage.
Edit ... KCAL reports the response is to Thomas Aquinas College not far from the epicenter.
KCAL-TV reporting an Ojai-area "wine boutique" lost about 20% of its inventory off the shelves.
Here's KCAL-TV Channel 9 in Los Angeles when the quake happened during their #Hilary live coverage.
Good morning ... The Los Angeles Times reports that the eye of #Hilary passed over Dodger Stadium. π±

@WordsmithFL Yep, I got a warning.
@LiberalLibrarian Yay! Whereabouts do you live?
@WordsmithFL In Inglewood up to no good.
@LiberalLibrarian Ah, okay, thanks.
@WordsmithFL Yeah, we're about 2 hours away from Ojai, so we didn't feel anything.
@LiberalLibrarian Yeah, your homeboy would be the Newport-Inglewood Fault.
@WordsmithFL Oh, how many wine boutiques have I visited in Ojai? Ugh.
@WordsmithFL We got the alert. We were so close though that we felt rolling about a second before the alert. Thankfully we are far enough away that it wasnβt too bad.
@pknanse Glad you're okay. Whereabouts were you?
@WordsmithFL I am in Eastern Ventura Countyβ¦Camarillo.
@pknanse Okay, thank you ... Yep, definitely close.
@WordsmithFL That's where the Six-Million Dollar man came from!
