folk - what do you do when you need to focus on a project? Do you have some kind of ritual that can quiet down everything unnecessary in your head?

@Wifwoof I have a white noise app that has a continuous brown noise sound that tends to help settle my brain.

I also try to change my environment in some way if I can (so if its work I can do on my laptop I'll go to a coffee shop and sit in the back - get dopamine from coffee and new environment).

I'll put in my headphones and turn on the brown noise and then just keep pushing myself back to the task every time I notice I'm getting distracted.

@kaequinn That's actually a pretty cool way to calm the thoughts! Although I think for me the coffee shop would provide even more distractions :D What's the app that you're using?

@Wifwoof here’s a pic of it from the App Store! It’s got a bunch of different sounds you can swipe through (including the ability to make your own). The only one I use is the brown noise (and I recorded my cat purring 🥰)

I definitely hear ya with the coffee shop. It depends on how busy it is and how it’s set up. Sometimes it just means I’m moving from the office to the bedroom for a change of scenery. It’s the change that seems to help more than where I am.

@Wifwoof I’ve also found utilizing my in kinda a modified pomodoro timer can help. I let myself do it to a certain point (play a video game till I die, finish one embroidery thread) then I have to work on my project until I hit a certain mark then I can go back to my hyper focus until I hit that benchmark again. Rinse and repeat.

It helps give dopamine motivation since you know your reward is your hyper fixation. I wouldn’t be able to do chores without it 😅
