May you meet these dire times well, dear
daughter. May the remedy for your apathy be
awe. May you stand on the northern hill, ring
a bell, look west, and hum while the sun sets
on your tamer ways, while the impossible
becomes possible and the clocks fall from the
walls. Stay tender through it all. Stay wise.
Walk with one foot in the world of the wailing
women and the rebel chieftains who dreamt
you alive. Hone your night vision and look for
the lessons in the old stories...

"I work on #climatechange, and now I’m a #climaterefugee. I feel an urgent need to speak up and say: this was an #unnaturaldisaster.
Days later my daughter is still having nightmares. But I can see that even though she’s still a kid, she’s able to connect the dots. She asks me, “Why are humans doing this? Why is the smartest species on the planet still polluting the Earth? Why aren’t we fixing it?” And I struggle to give her answers." #ScientifcAmerican

"I don’t know what it says about our society that we apparently need to follow up actual horror and grief with manufactured trauma. But apparently we do.
That’s no way to learn. That’s no way to live. That’s no way to prepare for a life full of promise."

The North Polar region of Mars is capped with layers of water ice and dust, called the “polar layered deposits.” This permanent polar cap is covered in the winter with a layer of seasonal carbon dioxide ice.
Here, we can see a dark streak marking the path of that loose material, approximately 1 kilometer wide. HiRISE images often show avalanches in progress in the springtime along the edge of the polar layered deposits in this area.
