Years ago, I took a two day course on “Search and Rescue in Community Disasters” - one of many programs offered through FEMA to help communities deal with the aftermath of disasters. It’s well worth availing yourself of such training, even if you never end up using it. There’s lots of practical information that will make YOU better prepared. #EmergencyPreparedness
"AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTERS FIND THAT #MILTON'S INTENSITY HAS REBOUNDED.
"Aircraft reconnaissance data + satellite images indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 mph w/ higher gusts. Milton is a category 4 hurricane..."

If Milton continues along the current track, it could be the worst storm to impact the Tampa area in more than a century, according to the weather service." CBS News

@VylaMundi Something that the Grey Lady should have realized regarding actual journalism years ago:
""If someone says it's raining, and another person says it's dry, it's not your job to quote them both. Your job is to look out the fucking window and find out which is true." -Sally Claire
And again, about hurricane #conspiracytheories...
"“Simply stated, these conspiracy theories are perpetuated by people with the critical thinking skills of a rutabaga.”
“We should ask ourselves… if someone can’t explain why a cloud floats, why should we take their conspiracies about the weather as law?”"
- Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci re MTG's latest " 'They' caused X..." statement
“A conspiracy theorist is a person who tacitly admits that they have insufficient data to prove their points. A conspiracy is a battle cry of a person with insufficient data.”
— Neil deGrasse Tyson
"In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, far-right extremist groups and politicians are spreading false claims and conspiracy theories about the disaster and the government's response." #PBSNews
"#Fossilfuel executives have known since the 1970s that burning oil, coal and gas would cause escalating #climatecatastrophes and worldwide suffering. Yet they lied, sacrificed our safety for their greed and just unleashed an apocalypse on my hometown. Their actions will condemn children today to a planet that’s more hell than Earth by the end of the century if we don’t stop them.
It isn’t just a tragedy; it’s a crime against humanity."
