Advice from Meteorologists on Dealing with Storm Anxiety
Are you, or someone you know, afraid of storms? Empower yourself with the facts on storms and adequately preparing for severe weather. - NWS Morristown TN
@MotherDucker #WeatherAnxiety can happen to anyone. In the weather classes I teach at area schools, I ask the entire group (students & teachers) to raise their hands if they are a bit (or a lot) afraid of strong weather. The kids are just as surprised at the number of kids' hands raised as they are of the number of adults/teachers hands going up.
Being able to learn more about it is the best plan. Having some control over what feels like an uncontrollable situation can help a great deal.
@WDEFAustenOnek my grandmother used to be deathly afraid of storms. In southwestern Pennsylvania where weather was never really extreme. A rumble of thunder had her herding us into the basement and praying while we, kids, drank RC cola and ate Slim Jim’s from pap’s basement bar.
I miss her every day, but I’m glad she doesn’t have to face the weather nowadays.
