There are huge patches of this thistle and it'll be a purple carpet.

Another invasive species also starting to flower is Vicia villosa ssp. varia (aka Smooth vetch, Thick fruited vetch, Winter vetch, Woollypod vetch). Just like the thistle, there are huge patches of this vetch and it'll cover large swaths of land near the flood control channel. ,
