1st release of treated Fukushima #nuclear #wastewater complete, operator says. A 2nd round of wastewater will be released in the next few weeks after crews inspect and clean the Japanese nuclear facility. #pollution https://www.foxnews.com/world/1st-release-treated-fukushima-nuclear-wastewater-complete-operator-says
@peeppeepcircus From my understanding about this particular release of polluted wastewater is the following:
1. Contained radioactive water was pretreated to remove as much of the radioactive components through a combination of treatment methods, including carbon filtration, ion-exchange water softening, and reverse osmosis.
2. Unfortunately, even though it is highly discouraged, the old method of "dilution of pollution" by using the vast ocean to diminish the pollutants continues to be used.
@peeppeepcircus Netflix's "The Days" 8 episode drama series summaries the events that led to this catastrophe. Would highly recommend. https://youtu.be/ZQkb7fCr2bQ
@peeppeepcircus Contaminated water is only a small part of the work that needs to be done to the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant. This article summarizes the amount of work that still needs to be done. https://apnews.com/article/fukushima-daiichi-decommission-nuclear-radiation-wastewater-release-4745dff09d17a7de47b3e3dc4653724a
