Okay, #CoSoWriters, what are you working on? Tell me about your current WIP! (Or, if you're like me, *one* of your current WIPs...lol)
#amwriting #writers #writinglife #writingcommunity #writinginspiration
@VenessaG
Carnival stories always have something special about them, don't they? There's something about a carnival that offers so much possibility. #writing #writingcommunity
@TheStorySmith Yaaaaas! My love of the setting started with Something Wicked This Way Comes. I mean... it doesn't get any better than that, right? lol
This particular novella features an abandoned carnival in our reality and an eldritch horror realm where the carnival is live, but inhabited by dead-eyed humans and eldritch monsters. SO MUCH FUN! :)
@VenessaG I can imagine!
🎪 🎡🎢
@VenessaG I’m currently working on an essay interpretating the games from Remedy (Alan Wake, Control etc)
They have an interesting commentary on the nature of games that I want to explore
@mrgnarchr I love it when brainy folx talk about games beyond the context of simply playing them. Rock on! :)
@VenessaG I had this whole "Assassin Chef" concept but some time during 2020 I got sick of writing about killing and converted it into a Spy Chef concept.
It flows better and forces more thoughtful creative writing on my part. Plus iI can write a Chef into almost any locale.
Me and my lady watch a lot of Below Deck so currently location is on a SuperYacht.
@SuperJude Okay, that is a really cool concept! And pivoting like that is something not a lot of writers can do mid-project, so kudos! :D
(Also, I feel like I need to watch Below Deck now. Lemme add it to the list! lol)
@VenessaG working on a short story start from about a year ago based on the 'job' of a sin eater. Putting some detail on former sketches and firming up the structure of the narrative.
@JonathanSchultz Oh, that sounds like a fun one! Is the main character the sin eater?
@VenessaG Yes, like a gig worker for a sin-eating-as-a-servicr arrangement.
@JonathanSchultz That is FABULOUS! I love it!
@VenessaG Well ... Currently I’m knee deep in an LGBTQ+/Trans specifically story for #NaNoWriMo.
Usually I’d be neck deep in a fantasy story during the week and another genre(changeable) on weekends. NaNo is giving me a rest. 🙄😅
@JanGoesWriting That sounds excellent! So it's not a fantasy-based LGBTQ+/Trans story? Is it set in the modern world then, genre-wise?
@VenessaG Yeah, it’s a modern slice-of-life story about someone coming to terms with their gender.
I have LGBTQ+ characters in most of my stories, though, even the fantasy stuff. ☺️
@JanGoesWriting I do too. It sounds like a great project!! I hope it goes really well :D
300,000+ years in the future on an abandoned Earth, an ancient creature awakens from the depths of his catacombs to the sound of human voices and recolonisation of the much evolved planet. Intent on re-establishing an ongoing food source, he sets out to vanquish rival Sourcebloods and assert his dominance over the settlers. But, with a war still playing out between factions in other quarters of the solar system, all is not quite what it seems #writingcommunity #Nanowrimo (Unofficial)
@TheStorySmith ooOOooOOoo! That sounds *excellent*! :D How far along are you?
Over halfway. but I'm only aiming for 20-22k. I'm not officially doing nano this year, as I want to take my time with it, but plodding along each day while everyone else is hammering it out helps.
@TheStorySmith Hey, that's excellent! I'm doing NaNo, but I know I'm unlikely to make the 50k. I always join anyway, because the goal is just to have more words at the end than the beginning. So great job! :)
I've also got another WIP that is a previous Nano project at around 75k atm. But I have been struggling to properly finish it. I need to be relaxed when I write fiction, and especially if I'm writing humour, which this has a more humourous thread to it than my other projects. The current social climate isn't conducive to that.
@TheStorySmith I feel that in my bones. I've struggled with my writing for the last several years. *sending you good writing mojo*
i just try to remember that Tolkien took 13 yrs to write LOTR, and much of that was interrupted with the war. This is our generations' war period (as in, the strife connected with war, such as economy and disruption/division. Let's hope it doesn't go any further south!)
@TheStorySmith That is SO true! (re: war period) Good vibes for ALL of us!
@VenessaG
Twatter being left to fester in its own faeces will probably be a good thing. Let the freaks hate on each other and bury themselves in their own 💩 while the rest of us get on with building more constructive things together.
@VenessaG I just finished up a ya. A different genre for me. Now I'm back to my scifi series.
@b2run Congratulations on finishing the YA! HUZZAH! 🎉
@VenessaG Almost done the second round of edits on my WIP. It's the third book in a sci-fi series that will be ready to publish sometime next year. Still tons of work left to do though.
@Darrel Wooot! Way to keep pushing through the edits. I hate doing revisions on my own work. I'm a pro editor, so I'm all about helping authors with theirs, but mine? UUUGGGHHHH. lol
@VenessaG lol, I hear ya. Thanks very much!👍
@VenessaG Demon possession/exorcism novel where the demon isn't necessarily the bad guy (or girl, as the case may be). #amwriting
@DickBlack Oh, I love stories that turn tropes upside down and are unexpected :) How far along are you?
@VenessaG Hi Venessa. :)
working on the 3rd book of my most popular series (supernatural thriller: reluctant hero, transforms into a monster fighting monsters). Taking longer than usual because of life stuff. But inching along.
@jeffschanz_author That sounds awesome :) What sort of monster does the hero turn into?
Good job keeping on, with life being what it invariably is these days! Huzzah! :D
@VenessaG He's werewolf looking with no traditional associations. Closer to the Hulk. When he's severely injured or dying, the beast comes out and starts to destroy threats, healing in the process.
That knowledge doesn't come out until 1/2way through 1st book.

@jeffschanz_author That sounds very cool! I'll have a look! Thanks! And great luck in getting it done! :D
@VenessaG Good luck to yours too!
:)
I'm working on an eldritch horror novella set at an abandoned carnival. And then also, a novel about a demon hunter.
