😩 I definitely do NOT recommend bamboo tubing for mason bees, as it harbours pollen mites and chalkbrood. Nevertheless, a queen has decided to make the tubing her nesting place. I will figure out a way to safely remove the cocoons in the fall 💕🐝
@peeppeepcircus definitely not on a wooden fence or any location where earwigs or parasites might get at them. You can hang them from tree branches, but the best place is to put a post in the ground or place the house on a metal / glass / plastic table or stand, because It makes it harder for critters to get at the cocoons. The house should also be placed in direct morning sunlight 🌞🐝
@Valkyrie_D @peeppeepcircus quick question for you if you don't mind?
Would I have any luck with them if you only have afternoon sun? I'd love to have them around and help them out, but I don't get any sun til noon. 😕
@Halcyon oh yeah, they’ll be fine. They’re just more active in morning sun / Southeast.
@Valkyrie_D @peeppeepcircus Awesome! Thank you!
@Halcyon and thank YOU for helping to contribute to the mason bee population 💕👏🐝@peeppeepcircus
@Valkyrie_D @peeppeepcircus I'm all for ohr native pollinators! Mason bees, bumbles, hoverflies, sweat bees, lacewings. All are welcome in my garden!
@peeppeepcircus I hope you have lots of success with your future mason bee house and the cocoons!!!! Thank you so much for considering raising mason bees 🐝 💕❤️ Your garden will definitely thank you!!
@Valkyrie_D I know this about the bamboo tubes. I’m still trying to figure out the right location for my future mason house. I know they won’t want it to be moved so I gotta get it right the first time.
