Wanted to get an unwanted recurring bogus push notification removed from my Discover account.
The 25-minute (quite pleasant) journey went:
Customer Service Diana
transferred me to
Security Christine
who transferred me to
Fraud Iris
who transferred me to
Investigations Mundo
who put me on hold to call Web Support.
30 seconds later Mundo comes back and says it's all taken care of.
I said he sounded surprised that Web Support was able to fix it so fast. "I was," he replied. :)

We’ve now had our first “You’re on mute,” moment of this Jan6 video conference

I'm going to do an experiment. On all my social media points (save here) I'm going to start randomly inserting the word "asparagus." And in general conversation I'm gong to start saying, "bowling tournament." I rarely eat asparagus (although I don't dislike it), and I very rarely bowl or watch it on tv.
I'll report back in a few days to see how Big Brother reacted.

Once I got the TSB I found plenty of internet chatter about the problem and multiple ways to address it. The issue is legit. Glad to know my mechanic is still a straight shooter.

Took my lovely bride's '16 Honda Pilot in for an oil change this morning. Also asked they check on how it falters while accelerating. Turns out the degraded transmission fluid was a *software* problem. Computer is allowing the fluid to get too hot and prematurely aging the fluid. Flushed/replaced the fluid and the hesitation is gone. I now have the TSB number and will need to go to a Honda dealer for the software upgrade. Now you know too.

I haven't had a chance to check the firehose for this so apologies if it's a repeat.... I'm very disappointed in NPR's huge lazy mistake in this story about the damage caused by various types of firearms:

But what frosted me was that NPR's website for the author lists an invalid twitter handle for the author. Lazy on top of lazy.

This is too important of an issue to jack up details. I found (I think) the correct twitter handle for the author and DM'ed her.

Either a cracked head or a failed head gasket.
That's a 3k repair. Not gonna happen on this vehicle.

Solution: Salvage truck for $800 and buy new-used 2011 truck for cash (son's cash). Was able to use the salvage value as trade in (tax advantage).

Actual moral of the story?
Lots of trouble shooting could have been avoided if I had JUST CHECKED THE EFFING OIL!

-Replace positive (red) battery -cable and put trickle charger on batter for 24 hours: Success!

Nope.
-Blue smoke from exhaust.
Check oil: the wonderful color of coffee with creamer and waaaay past the right marker on the dipstick. FAIL!

A tale of my son's 2006 chevy pickup:
-OBD code thrown. Son buys and installs (relatively) cheap sensor.
-Slight leak in coolant host.
-Son buys and installs new hose.
-Son drives truck to work.
-Next day truck won't start.
-Jump start: fail
-Pull battery from my truck: fail
-Check current at starter: iffy
-Replace starter: fail (really? damn)
