Took my lovely bride's '16 Honda Pilot in for an oil change this morning. Also asked they check on how it falters while accelerating. Turns out the degraded transmission fluid was a *software* problem. Computer is allowing the fluid to get too hot and prematurely aging the fluid. Flushed/replaced the fluid and the hesitation is gone. I now have the TSB number and will need to go to a Honda dealer for the software upgrade. Now you know too.

Once I got the TSB I found plenty of internet chatter about the problem and multiple ways to address it. The issue is legit. Glad to know my mechanic is still a straight shooter.
