I know there is a multitude of awful things happening in the world right now--not just in Ukraine. People show their capacity to be vile on large and small scales, across cultures, nations, and time.
Would some of you be willing to amplify a counterpoint to that ugliness?

Blew a serpentine belt on road. Hunting season w/ deer, on way to butcher. No tools or cell phone. Old man, only one to stop during rush hour. Takes me to get belt. Store closed. Calls man in the next town who manages parts store to meet us at his closed store to get belt. Back to car & helps me force the belt on BY HAND. Cuts his knuckle open while doing that
I'm in awe when he says "Someone helped me once when I really needed it. Please be there for someone when you find yours"
When I was young my parents frequently told a story about how they got the dressers my brother and I had in our bedrooms. A family friend had them for sale but instead gave them to my parents, refusing any kind of payment. My parents didn't have 2 nickels to rub together so they were quite grateful. The friend told them to enjoy them and to do something kind for someone else in the future. Clearly my first exposure to the "pay it forward" concept.
